2023: Tinubu Declares Readiness To Debate From Morning Till Dusk
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has declared his readiness to debate from morning till dusk.
The presidential hopeful made the bold declaration on Thursday in response to criticisms for avoiding presidential debates in Nigeria.
Naija News reports that while other presidential candidates have availed themselves for debates on ARISE Television programmes and Townhall meetings, the former Governor of Lagos State had, several times, shunned his invites.
There have been speculations that the APC presidential candidate was shying away from the debates because he could not withstand the rigour.
Opposition camps, especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had accused Tinubu of avoiding debates because he had nothing to tell Nigerians.
Tinubu, while addressing some young Nigerians in London, said attending a debate was never an issue.
“I am ready to debate with you from morning till night… and I’m speaking in London, not in Jigawa. It is great that you are alive to tell the story just giving the assurance never to give up… Broadband creation, energy that you talked about.. if they’ve taken our advice.. in the beginning of democracy in 1999, we brought in investment. My Deputy then is here.. and then so many other innovative things,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu, on Wednesday backed Tinubu for shunning the Arise Television debate held recently.
Speaking at a press briefing held in his office in Abuja yesterday, Kalu said Tinubu was right for declining the invitation to attend the event and other television debates.
The ranking Senator insisted that rather than attend such a debate, the APC flagbearer would go and sell his agenda to Nigerians across the country.
The former Governor of Abia State also accused some media houses of turning their platforms into avenues for insulting politicians in the country.
